Tea and cake were great! Great location.
I'm looking forward to the reopening after look down
It is a very cozy and friendly place with a Jewish spirit and a mid-century modernism feeling. One can look into a unique collections of books mainly connected to Jewish culture (I enjoyed Yiddish-English dictionary a lot!) The breakfast offer is not abundant, but what is there is just great and tasteful and served timely. I would recommend this place and make it to a part of my “Hamburg to enjoy” plan:)
Nice cafe tasty poppy seed waffles.
The food was very good. The service is a bit stressed and not very comfortable. I didn't feel so comfortable although the food and drinks were great. No credit cards were taken, only EC. That should no longer be the case in 2020. In general, however, the store is recommended.
My current favorite restaurant. The food is incredibly delicious and nicely decorated. And the waitresses are helpful, courteous and polite. Individual requests are catered for and we were given good advice every time! This is how you wish to go to a restaurant!
Good food!
nice location and well presented. The staff is friendly and professional. The coffee is good, and so is the cake. The guests are not always to my taste, but I enjoy the atmosphere.
Cozy café in a lively neighborhood. I enjoyed a hot chocolate and a slice of cake during a catch-up with a friend on a rainy day. Service was fast and friendly. Would definitely return if I’m in the area
Great food, good service. Reservations!
"The food was actually very good, but the service was extremely unfriendly". As far as any other review that can be read here, I would not go. The food is really great, but the service wasn't that rude either. They are just very rigid there when it comes to their working hours, which is reflected in the very limited kitchen hours. Where else do you get nothing after 9 p.m., not even a prepared dessert? That is really wrong, as is the rather unfriendly way in which this was communicated to us. And what really does not work (especially in this context!) Is that the opening time until 10.30 p.m. gives us a definitely wrong picture. The end is at 10 p.m. ... afterwards you are complemented out quite roughly. It's a shame ... you can do a lot better here!
Great food at fair prices, a cozy atmosphere and very nice service.
The service is slow and sometimes a bit cheeky. The food tastes okay - but mostly a bit pale. In terms of price, of course, upper class. What should you do if you just like to eat Israeli and live around the corner. If you go there, I can't really recommend the shop.
A great place with delicious food, a nice ambience and great people. The lunch menu is excellent and the regular menu is also particularly good.
Special place with special food, interesting people and books.
Really great for breakfast - the service (young man) courteous and very friendly. Reserve if possible, it is always well attended. The poppy seed waffles are great too. However, this small pan with egg and the homemade bread is best. Absolute recommendation.
Great place to have breakfast !! Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture. Next time ;)
As a real lover of Jewish-influenced cuisine, I have had a negative experience in this restaurant for the unfortunately repeated time. This time I take my seat at 8:40 p.m., immediately asking if I could get something to eat. This was answered in the affirmative, but then nothing more happened at my table in the very busy restaurant. When I asked the third time, the card, I wanted to order, but the service employee disappeared. at 20:50 then the answer that the kitchen closes at 9:00 p.m. "Then something quick, I haven't really eaten anything today". "The kitchen can no longer do that" (as I said, the restaurant business was in full swing. I was then "allowed" to leave the restaurant. A service failure and the opposite of hospitality.
Highly recommended in the morning. You have an unusual breakfast selection, but basically it consists of the standards only combined differently. Have tried two breakfast menus so far, which did not impress me, but at least looked and tasted good. A little expensive, but also in a nice place. The service is very good. It looks rather conservative and is always well filled. With more than four people, it may become a little more difficult unless tables can be put together.
Falafel, Shakshuka, hummus and freshly baked bread. You will find these and other delicacies of Israeli cuisine extremely deliciously prepared in Café Leonar. Without question, 5 stars!
Great special breakfast for a reasonable price. The waiter very attentive and extremely friendly despite many guests. Will come back for sure!
Amazing food and place! We got a nice table outside, all COVID related hygiene mesures were in place. Recommend the sharing platter as an appetizer! Delicious!
Very professional, yet cozy food. For the soul. Good cakes.
We love the offer and the cozy atmosphere in the Café Leonar - only because of the service that takes getting used to, we can no longer award stars. We had to wait half an hour to be cleared by a lady. Everything may take longer, but please be kind to grateful guests! Still ... see you soon!
I used to love this place. But if you enter a bar for a quick drink 40 Minutes before they close and all you hear is “we’ll close very soon” instead of a hello and welcome… Exactly: You leave it right away.
It's a nice place to have breakfast and some tea and cake too. The service is good and fast. It's a place for families. They have a very variety of freshly baked cake. I will definitely suggest this place to anyone. Take your friends and family and have some great things to eat and drink.
Shakshuka was delicious, will definitely come again when next time in Hamburg
Nice breakfast, drink. There's menu list is so beautiful
Cosy place for great brunch in lovely neighborhood. The coffee is very good - mellow but rich in flavors without being sour or overly bitter. In summer you can sit outside and enjoy the sun, although at times the sun will be too intense. Then the butter will melt from your croissant faster than you can look. The service could be better. They are a bit understaffed, so sometimes you have to wait quite a long time.
First visit here yesterday. Cosy atmosphere and very friendly staff despite the cafe being quite busy. Food wasn’t exactly cheap but of exceptional taste. We really enjoyed our time here.
Yum
Very nice coffee shop with good food and friendly staff.
amazing food, nice locarion and friendly staff. not cheap...
One of my favourity places in Hamburg. Very nice dishes in a lovely atmosphere.
Great place for a breakfast. Very friendly staff. And multiple options for vegetarians too!
Nice place with indoor and outdoor area. We were seated outside in the morning sun and had one big breakfast for two and a granola bowl. All in all they have a big choice of breakfast menus from around 5-29€ all served with a hot drink. Food and coffee were tasty. Service was nice and quite fast.
Very good coffe with a very nice staff!
Perfect for a Weekend brunch (Shakshuka on the photo) with plenty of nice seatings. Great coffee and cake.
The food was amazing! Best hummus I’ve ever had. The server (maybe owner?) was incredibly accommodating to myself, my husband, and our toddler. Great service. Going back today!
great food and atmosphere. friendly service
Yummy poppyseed waffles!
If you want to have a relaxed chat with some nice drinks or simply just a coffee in a cosy cafe - this should be your choice! I came here through an invite of a friend. The staff is very friendly and the dishes seem tasty (didn’t try it - yet.). Will come again for sure! Thank you!

Absolutely unfriendly. There are 26 degrees outside, a friend and I were eating ice-cream (almost finished them, I had only the waffle) when we saw the Cafe and decided to have a coffee or drink here. We took a table outside on the street, and immediately a waiter came and told us to go for a walk to finish the ice cream before taking place there. Not cool treatment
Wonderfully cosy atmosphere, good food and great staff.
Great place to end a walk through the Grindel quarter or have a late breakfast at the weekend. The staff is nice and the food good! The restaurant serves kosher food and wine. So, feel free to try some Israeli meals.
Waited over 10 minutes to get 2 glasses of beer.. Ah bad service but tasty food.
Excellent food and relaxed atmosphere! Priced rather in the middle / higher segment but worth every penny. The location is very quiet and you can sit comfortably outside without being disturbed by a noisy street. The staff is very friendly and attentive. All around a very positive experience. Clear recommendation.
Rather small selection of not-so-cheap food, but worth it!
